Another 5 minute word sprint completely unfiltered/unedited, this time with a very vague prompt

prompt: compare academic writing to creative writing

How could someone be so perfect? She kept on wondering to herself ever since she saw the boy on the Subway. It was just a quick glimpse really. He got off in a few stops and she was sitting too far away from him to initiate a casual conversation. He had a laptop open on his lap, appearing to do a delicate task. His brow furrowed with concentration. Minutes later, his phone rang, and the boy put the call on speaker phone for a few moments. Perhaps it was by accident.

“Well Shapla, are you just going to compose scores all day?”

It occurred to her that the boy had been writing music. Perhaps it may not seem remarkable to some, but it did to her. It was like seeing someone read a contemporary fiction novel on a cafe or park bench. She couldn’t explain it, but she loved the feeling of people doing something which they loved. Not for school assignments. Not for money. Just spending time on anything but their phones or on their biological needs. It was like a romantic relationship with oneself.

Contemplation. How I wish I had more time for contemplation. It is supposed to be the highest kind of human activity, and can only be done once one is free from necessity. Wasn’t it the goal of the ancient man to never have to work again? To focus on art and political action and ideas. It is what makes us human. Yet isn’t it strange that science, technology, and political institutions are making us even less human? We see them as signs of progress. But they take away what’s really important. They leave us with no time for contemplation. All that matters to me is art. And when I’m in love, all that matters to me is art and love. Yet women should never lose their identities when they are in love. Any love that requires us to sacrifice who we are isn’t worth it. Don’t compromise your morals. Be unshakable and firm in your principles. Or else what’s the point? My life has always been lonely. No siblings and only a few friends. Yet how many times have I sat down, with a storm in my mind, only to be interrupted by biological necessity?
